THE ABANDOIBARRA FOOTBRIDGE DESIGNED BY IDEAM SA AMONG THE 12 SPECTACULAR BRIDGES OF THE 21ST CENTURY
El País publishes in its digital version an article on 12 spectacular bridges of the 21st century, including a Spanish one, the Abandoibarra Pedro Arrupe footbridge made of stainless steel in Bilbao.
IDEAM SA won the ideas competition in 1995 at the hands of José Antonio Fernández Ordóñez, who unfortunately could not see the completion of its execution in 2003, and carried out the detailed design and the Construction Management. The owner was BILBAO Ria 2000, S.A., the contractor was Ferrovial, the steel workshop URSSA S. Coop. STEEL STRUCTURES.
The 142.5 m long footbrige with a central span of 84 m has ramps and lateral stairs that provide it with a plan view with a very special geometry.
The central span was floated and lifted to its final location.
