IDEAM, S.A. carried out the detailed design for SACYR together with the Technical Assistance during the execution for almost 5 years. The bridge was commissioned in December 2019.

The bridge has a total length of 2173 m between joints, with a central section of 800 m with and a central span of 380 m. The bridge is completed with two access viaducts of 618 and 755 m in length and 70 m typical span, as well as two branches in viaduct.

The cable-stayed section has 68 pairs of stays anchored every 10 m on the axis of the deck. The pylons have a height of about 35 m below the deck and 85 m above it, reaching a total height of about 125 m from the coronation to the top face of the veneer.

The cross section of the deck is composed of a monocellular concrete box-girder with variable width up to 38.1 m that reaches the entire cable-stayed section. This fact makes it the widest bridge in South America in its typology (concrete box-girder bridge with central stays), placing it among one of the widest of this type in the world, and in the longest cable-stayed span in Colombia and one of the world’s largest in its typology.

The access viaducts were made using M.S.S., manufactured by BERD – Bridge Engineering Research & Design ex profeso for this bridge, which executed the 16 m wide drawer section, while a wing traveller completed the lateral wings 3 spans behind.

The cable-stayed section was executed by means of symmetrical equilibrated cantilevers from the pylons by using traveller formwork manufactured by ConstruGomes Engenharia, which were able to execute the central box girder of 16 m wide by means of 10 m long segments and weighing up to 535 t , one of the largest executions in the world in this type of bridges.
