Did you know that the Abandoibarra footbridge (Pedro Arrupe footbridge) in Bilbao is the first great stainless steel footbridge in Spain?
It has been 18 years since the execution of the footbridge that connects the University of Deusto with the Abandoibarra area, next to the Guggenheim museum, was completed.
IDEAM, S.A. won the ideas competition in 1995 at the hands of José Antonio Fernández Ordóñez, who unfortunately could not see the completion of its execution in 2003, and carried out the detailed design and the Construction Management. The owner was BILBAO Ria 2000, S.A., the contractor was Ferrovial, the steel workshop URSSA S. Coop. STEEL STRUCTURES.
The 142.5 m long footbrige with a central span of 84 m has ramps and lateral stairs that provide it with a plan view with a very special geometry.
The central span was floated and lifted to its final location.
