SELECTED IN THE SHORTLIST FOR THE IABSE 20″LA CONCORDIA” ARCH BRIDGE IN VALDEBEBAS, MADRID, 22 AWARD
“La Concordia” arch bridge, which connects Valdebebas with Terminal 4 of the Madrid airport, has been shortlisted along with 4 other works for the prestigious international award “IABSE Award for Innovation in Construction” 2022.
It has been many years of hard work since IDEAM SA won the ideas competition in 2007 with our proposal for a singular arch bridge that we carried out together with the architects Francisco José Domouso de Alba, Lorenzo Fernández-Ordóñez Hernández and Emilio Rodríguez, and they have been also many engineers, technicians and draftsmen from the office who have participated in some of the phases of the competition, the Detailed Design and the Works Management.
The promoter of the bridge was Junta de Compensación Parque de Valdebebas, Ferrovial was the constructor and the specialist heavy-lifting company Mammoet, which carried out the complex and innovative translation operation of the central section of the arch.
The bridge has a main span of 162 m, a total length of 207 m and a width of 24.5 m, making it the longest span in the Region of Madrid.
