The construction of the New Boca del Cerro Bridge over the Usumacinta River, in section 1 Palenque-Escárcega of the Mayan Train, in Mexico, is advancing at a very good pace.
The new viaduct is located parallel to and very close to the impressive Boca del Cerro arch bridge, in service since 1950.
The typological and structural solution chosen for the new Mayan Train bridge was based on the condition of seeking the greatest possible transparency, resolving the central span of 160 m by means of a steel truss with double composite (steel&concrete) action, which allows jumping the great span of the river Usumacinta -the largest in Mexico-, respecting its integration into a natural environment of extraordinary beauty and avoiding “competing” with the existing bridge, which must continue to maintain its preponderance in the landscape.
The large central span is embedded at the ends by means of two short hidden spans, 30 m long, with a post-tensioned concrete box girder cross section, anchored in abutments, and will be executed by cantilevered advance using a mobile gantry that avoids any dependence on the riverbed.

At present, the on-site execution of the hidden lateral spans is advancing, after the completion of the abutments and intermediate piers, and the execution of the segments of the steel truss begins at a good pace with the welding in situ of the first pieces, which in shortly they will be positioned on site.
Once completed, the bridge will become the largest span of all of the Maya train.
