Sabiñánigo viaduct, Spain

The execution of Sabiñánigo Viaduct (structure E-4) deck over the Gállego and Aurín rivers on the Mudéjar Highway (A-23), in Huesca, Spain, progresses.

This week an important milestone was reached in the work with the concreting of the central concrete box-girder of the first 90 m long span of the deck.

In the operation, 800 cubic meters of concrete have been concretized during 16 hours of uninterrupted work, carried out by 40 operators and 4 auto concrete pumbs working simultaneously.

The Viaduct is 933.7 m long, 25.10 m wide and has a span distribution of 9×90+74+49.70 m. The deck is materialized by a large post-tensioned concrete box-girger with variable depth and wide lateral overhangs that are supported by a series of precast concrete lateral struts. The large lateral overhangs of the cross section will be executed in the second phase by using a wing traveller.

The large lateral span 1 of 90 m, the last to be executed, is conditioned by the location of the Gállego river and the steep slope located next to abutment 1, and the 90 m typical spans represent the world record for the deck executed by means of a Movable Scaffolding System (M.S.S.), equaling the span reached on a viaduct on the Ankara-Kirikkale high-speed line in Turkey.

The work is being carried out by the JV Rover GrupoGrupo Aldesa for the Ministerio de Transportes, Movilidad y Agenda Urbana, the supplier and responsible for the execution of the deck woth the M.S.S. for the JV is Grupo TecoZam, and IDEAM | A TYLin Company has carried out the detailed design for the JV and is providing Technical Assistance during execution.

In a short time, the M.S.S. will advance and the execution will begin with a certain offset of the cantilevers with the wing traveller.
